San Vincenzo De' Paoli Sisters of Charity congregation

The Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul was established in 1633 by Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac. They have followed their vocation all over the world, globally engaged in helping the poorest people according to the principles and rules of their order.

The Company of the Daughters of Charity is the only entity in the Sardinian territory registered in the second section of the register of associations and organisations carrying out actions in favour of immigrants, referred to in Article 52, paragraph 1, letter b), of Presidential Decree No. 394 of 31 August 1999. Since 2003, it runs the Elen Joy Project, in partnership with the Region of Sardinia, a project financed by the Department for Equal Opportunities and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers among the projects implementing the Integrated Programme of Emergence, Assistance and Social Integration. Within the actions of this project, the Company of the Daughters of Charity has intervened against trafficking in human beings with the following activities:

• first contact activities (road units, anti-trafficking desk, assistance at landings)
• identification of trafficked victims (of any gender, age, origin, type of exploitation)
• housing and territorial reception or networking of victims of trafficking in exploitative conditions with the activation of individualised social protection programmes
• setup of educational and psychological support actions
• protection of sheltered users and of beneficiaries of protection programmes (legal support, regularization, health accompaniment, assisted voluntary repatriation) counselling, and guidance
• strengthening of the network in support of victims
• training and social and labour integration of victims
• design of practical in-company training courses addressed to migrants who are victims of trafficking to promote social and labour integration in the regional territory
• awareness-raising actions throughout the region and specific training for operators involved in assistance and reception activities.
