Save the Children

Save the Children Italy was established at the end of 1998 as a non-profit organisation, and it started its activities in 1999. Nowadays it is an NGO (non-governmental organisation) recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It carries out activities and projects aimed at children in developing countries as well as at children who live in Italy.

Save the Children supports children throughout their migratory journey: in their countries of origin, and in transit and destination countries.

It operates with a coordinated approach in 15 countries providing reception and protection, health and legal assistance, distribution of food, clothing, and hygiene kits to ensure that their migration path is not a path of death, but one of hope for all children, but above all for the most vulnerable ones.

In Italy, in particular, given the continuous arrival by sea of unaccompanied children and adolescents, with no family at their side, Save the Children is intensifying its efforts to provide them with the protection they need in the main places of landing and transit.

The first “Atlas of Unaccompanied Foreign Minors in Italy” has been published on Save the Children website, containing data, stories, maps of their paths, and new life in Italy over a period of 6 years.
