CPR - Centres for Repatriation

Established in 1998 by the Immigration Law No. 40/1998 (article 12), the CPT - Temporary Residence Centres, later called CIE - Identification and Expulsion Centres by Law No. 189/2002, and finally renamed CPR -Centre for Repatriation by Law No. 46/2017, have become a measure to contrast illegal immigration.

Article 2 of Decree-Law No. 113/2018 establishes an extension of the maximum time limit for administrative detention of foreign citizens in Centres for Repatriation, from 90 days to 180 days.
Macomer CPR, the 9th in Italy, has been operational since January 2020.
